Another Michelin star restaurant in town to check off my list. I haven't been to all of them to be honest. And while I like going to these places every once in a while I enjoy "simple" food much more. This is more like an event. Fabulous in its own right but completely different from what I normally expect when going out for food.
Olivier has arranged to meet up at the Le Flair as I hadn't been here. Neither had Nadine and Ingo but they cancelled on short notice, so it's Sonja, Jan and Olivier.
The decor is simple yet cozy and it looks very inviting at least at night. Warm lighting and light wooden tables are enough to make you feel welcome. Small accents and decorations are rounding off the overall impression. We sit at the large table to the left, so we are secluded from the rest of the restaurant.
Dany Cerf is the head chef and runs his restaurant with his partner Nicole Bänder. Before he opened his own restaurant he worked at the Baur au Lac in Zurich and at the Schiffchen * under Jean-Claude Bourgueil. Not the worst conditions to dive into this venture. They opened this place in 2014 and received the highly coveted Michelin star in 2016. Pretty impressive but when you actually taste the food, it's not hard to understand why. Probably the best scallops I have ever had in my life and I've had my share before. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented while being clean in structure and letting the main ingredient be the hero. I like how Dany is not overthinking the plate thus you as a guest don't have to either. Which does not mean that the palate will be left in boredom. Lots to explore and to taste but with precision while being unmistakably French. Loved every minute from the amuse to the petit fours. All in all an excellent menu with train of thought and great flavor. If you love fine dining and haven't been here, you're missing out! Kudos, chef Cerf! Can't wait to come back. Thank you, Sonja, Jan and Olivier for a wonderful evening!
